I was replacing front struts on a 2004 Jetta, because I knew the front coil springs were broken, I ended up buying SACHS full front replacements (strut, coils, strut mount) The job is ussualy pretty straight forward. unbolt the sway bar link from the lower control arm (16mm bolt) Unbolt the pinch bolt behind the strut (18mm bolt)and then you can use a special socket to spread the knuckle apart and hammer on it downwards while keeping the strut mounted bolted up so it stays there and the knuckle should start sliding down and letting the strut come out. T This time I was having many issues, the strut just wouldnt move enough (could have been the broken coil adding to the weird angle) and the lower control arm bushings were really touch and I just did not have enough leverage to pull it down some more. I ended up using spring compressors to compress the strut assembly just enough to get it out of the knuckle. Something to keep in mind if you run into the same problem as me. The SACHS ride very nicely, I would recomend them over the B4 Bilsteins if you are looking to replace.
